

Cénevières and its castle
Just 20 minutes from your gîte in Cabrerets, the Cénevières castle is located in the south-east of the Lot department, in the Parc naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy.
This beautiful building overlooks the winding Lot and offers a fine view over the valley.
In the time of Pepin the Short, the castle was used as a stronghold against the English during the 100 Years War. The Gourdon family then turned it into fortified place.
Antoine de Gourdon, inspired by theRenaissance architecture After taking part in the Italian Wars, he carried out work to enhance the Château de Cénevières in 1550.
Following his conversion to Protestantism, Antoine de Gourdon took part in the Wars of Religion. He welcomed Henry IV to the château before the attack on Cahors in 1580.
Today, Cénevières Castle is a magnificent reminder of the past, where you can visit ten furnished rooms dating from the 13th to 18th centuries. Sound alchemy laboratory is also a highlight of this wonderful visit.
