Cénevières & son château

Cénevières and its castle

Just 20 minutes from your gîte in Cabrerets, the Cénevières castle is located in the south-east of the Lot department, in the Parc naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy.

This beautiful building overlooks the winding Lot and offers a fine view over the valley.

At the time of Pepin the Short, the castle was used as a stronghold against the English during the 100 Years War. The de Gourdon family then transformed it into a fortified place.

Antoine de Gourdon, inspired by theRenaissance architecture after taking part in the Italian wars, embellished the Château de Cénevières in 1550.

After his conversion to Protestantism, Antoine de Gourdon took part in the Wars of Religion. He received Henri IV at the château before the attack on Cahors in 1580.

Today, Cénevières castle is a superb testimony to the past, where you can visit ten furnished rooms dating from the 13th to 18th centuries. Sound cabinet d'alchimie is also a highlight of this wonderful visit.
