Saut de la Mounine viewpoint
The Saut de la Mounine viewpoint: a balcony overlooking the Lot valley
Perched at an altitude of nearly 300 metres, the Saut de la Mounine viewpoint offers a lovely view of the meandering River Lot. That’s why we strongly encourage you to pay a visit.
Located near Cajarc, it is on the way to Figeac via the Lot valley. From the viewpoint, you can see steep cliffs, forests and reflections of the River Lot winding its way through the valley.
It’s very pretty at sunrise or sunset, when the shifting light adds its own colours.
The intriguing legend of Saut de la Mounine
Saut de la Mounine owes its name to a local legend. "Mounine" means "little guenon" in Occitan.
According to the legend of Saut de la Mounine, a female monkey is said to have leapt to her death to escape hunters, giving the place its name. Whilst the story may seem trivial, it adds a touch of mystery to this already fascinating place.
