Cénevières and its castle
Just 20 minutes from your gîte in Cabrerets, the Cénevières castle is located in the south-east of the Lot department, in the Parc naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy.
This beautiful building overlooks the winding Lot and offers a fine view over the valley.
A l’époque de Pépin le Bref, le château was used as a stronghold against the English during the 100 Years War. La famille de Gourdon l’a ensuite transformé en fortified place.
Antoine de Gourdon, inspired by theRenaissance architecture après avoir participé aux guerres d’Italie, effectua des travaux d’embellissement du Château de Cénevières en 1550.
Après sa conversion au Protestantisme, Antoine de Gourdon participe aux guerres de religion. Il reçut reçu Henri IV au château avant l’attaque de Cahors in 1580.
Aujourd’hui, le château de Cénevières est un superbe témoignage du passé, où vous pourrez visiter ten furnished rooms dating from the 13th to 18th centuries. Sound cabinet d’alchimie is also a highlight of this wonderful visit.
